Recently one of my relatives got a ticket from getting caught using a cell phone while driving. This is illegal in British Columbia. He got a fine which he is planning to pay off in installments. How is this going to help stop people from using the cellphone. A fine that can be paid off in smaller amounts does nothing to deter anyone from any activity. Even if people have to pay a fine in its entirety within 30 days, I do not see how a fine will deter anyone unles sit is around $1000.00. I know plenty of people who have received multiple fines. This doesn’t stop them from doing it again. Maybe if losing their licence for a period of time was the punishment, people wouldn’t be multiple offenders. I have no sympathy for such drivers at all.
